Sergio Gómez

He held various positions in the Ministry of Economy of Mexico, within the team of International Trade Negotiations. He was Commercial Counselor for the Mexican office of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in Ottawa, Canada (1993-1994). Director of Procedures for Adherence to NAFTA (1995). He also served as Director of International Trade Agreements, under whose responsibility he followed up on the implementation of NAFTA and the free trade agreements signed by Mexico with Colombia and Venezuela, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala (1996-1998) At the end of 1998 he was sent to Brussels as part of the negotiating team of the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union.

During 1999, he participated in the market access negotiations group and in the team responsible for lobbying the agreement with the European institutions and the private sector. From the second semester of 2000 until 2001, he collaborated in the elaboration of the program for the use of the treaty and was responsible for monitoring the implementation of the agreement. During 2002 and 2003 he was a consultant for the Special Initiative for Trade and Integration, at the Inter-American Development Bank, in the city of Washington, DC. In this capacity, he carried out various works on the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas and the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union. In 2004, together with Herminio Blanco, Jaime Zabludovsky and Fernando Salas, founding partner of the company IQOM, Inteligencia Comercial. He is currently CEO of IQOM, a leading company in strategic advisory services in international trade.
